All Sorts of Madness

A lot has happened recently in the Underwater Empire. Sadly, we have had a death. It came as a shock since we haven't had one in a while. RIP Trajan.

The rest is all to do with the snails. First of all, (as I have mentioned before...) both of them seem to have this magic superpower of floating. They'll be happily sliding across the bottom and then BLOOP! Air comes out of their shells and all of the sudden they go flying to the top. They float around for a while and then drop back down.... yeah... I know... weird, right?

Secondly (Concerning snails...) It seems we have a rather scandalous situation on our hands....  Hippocrates has been somehow (I have absolutely no idea how he does it...) finding a way in the Aphrodite's separator. I take him out, but the next time I see him he's right back in! I haven't the slightest idea how he does it or how to deal with it. (Help in the comments??)  Are they in love or does Hippocrates just like the safety of the separator? 

(Well, if they are in love, Aphrodite doesn't seem to like Hippocrates much. She is always in the opposite corner with her regular shocked face.)

And lastly I would just like to quickly point out how much Hippocrates has grown since I got him.

Nipping Nonsense - Aphrodite Up to Her Old Tricks

Well folks, Aphrodite is back into her old habits. Recently, she's been nipping the fins of Athena and Trajan. I put her in the seperater and she's already mad at me. How do I know? She won't eat her food. My plan is to keep her in there until the guppies' fins heal, but she may starve before then. If I let her out now, she'll probably keep nipping them, which will eventually cause my guppies' death (I know from experience...). Ahhhhh! What do I do?! Not only that, but I'm leaving on vacation next week, so I won't be able to moniter what's going on..... :-/

And thanks to those who voted on the weekly poll... keeps things interesting! I'm changing it tomorrow, so don't forget to vote next week?

New Picture of Augustus & Searching Made Easier!

I finally got a good picture of Augustus! (thanks to my dear sister:) I had to put him in the separator to get him to hold still for the camera. Even this picture doesn't do justice to his beautiful tail! He is also slightly more purple/pink. Enjoy!

If you haven't noticed, this blog has also gained a new search bar. Now you can search the blog and internet quickly and easily! My latest project has been to go back through all my posts (Oh, the memories....) and add labels to them, which will make it 10x easier to search this blog. Search results should appear at the top of the page. I organized it so it will bring up any article that I mentioned your search word(s). I encourage you all to use it. (It's really fun, actually...)

Decisions & Discoveries

I decided to put Aphrodite in the separator before I left on a short 3 day trip because she wouldn't stop nipping at the other fish- even Zeus! I got back and found the Zeus' badly nipped fin had regrown completely! So she's still in the separator and doing well. I'm hoping I can keep her in there until all the guppy's fins grow back too. The new guy is doing well, I still haven't decided on a name yet. I'm leaning towards Tiberious. I came up with more, now the top 4 are Tiberious, Hatchepsut, Socrates, and Nefertiti.  I also did some research about Pachus' disappearance. Appearantly this isn't uncommon. I've come to the conclusion that he died from bad water quality and Zeus ate his algae-covered corpse. It's reassuring to know that plecos only are known to eat corpses, not living fish. So the mystery of the missing Pachus is solved! More pictures of the new guy are above.

Well, quite a lot has happened since my last post. I moved, so my fish tank is in a new spot! The fish corner didn't exactly work out because of room space. I put Aphrodite in "solitary confinement" for nipping fins. Now there is a huge tear in Eiosepa's fin! I bought some medicine that will help all of the guppies' fins grow back, I'm still treating them. After about five or six days, I finally let Aphrodite out, and boy was she glad! I was getting worried about her because while she as separated, she stopped eating and was surface resting all the time. She was fine once I let her out...but if she nips again, she's going right back in! I bought new fish food, and saved $4 at Petco!! I also put pictures of each of my fish on a digital picture frame! Now it run through a slide show of all their names and a picture of them. So fun! Well, I'll try to keep you updated.

Update!

My fish tank has been its usual happy self. Recently I put Posiden into one of those separators, not because he was being bad, but because he's being nipped at. I noticed his fins looked a little torn a couple months ago, but just recently they have gotten worse. I put him in there so he could heal, and so I could find the culprit who's nipping at him. I suspect Aphrodite, I read that her species likes to nip at fish with long tails. Would it be bad if I put her in the separator like.... forever? I'd make it homey, but a couple pebbles and plants in there. Maybe it would be too much stress. Oh well, for now I'm keeping Posiden in the separator so he can heal. Other than that, not much news. Zeus is starting to eat the algae wafers... and he's enjoying them! He looks rather cute when he does, but whenever I try to take a picture of it or take a video, he swims away or hides. If somehow I ever do get a picture, I'll be sure to post it! Here's a picture of Posiden in the separator, if you were wondering what the separator looks like.
